Samuel Julien

Samuel Julien is a senior associate in the Tax Litigation and Controversy team at Deloitte Legal Canada LLP. He represents and advises corporations and individuals in dealing with the Canadian tax authorities, from requests for information up to complex international anti-avoidance matters. He adapts his strategy, from the audit and administrative appeal stages through to court challenges, by carefully considering each client’s specific needs and objectives.

Samuel also assists corporations in tax compliance matters, including new digital reporting and e-invoicing requirements. Samuel also has experience advising clients with respects to various administrative disputes and judicial reviews, including those related to municipal tax and regulations.
Samuel has acted in matters before the Court of Québec, the Superior Court of Québec, the Tax Court of Canada, the Court of Appeal of Québec and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Samuel is a speaker at conferences and seminars on various tax related matters.

Prior to joining Deloitte Legal Canada, Samuel practised in tax and administrative litigation at a major national law firm. Before his law career, he worked in information technology and document management for a major international public company, notably on the digitization of the Québec Land Register. He was also an optimization consultant in the public health care system.

Education

Samuel was called to the Bar of Québec in 2016, after receiving a bachelor’s degree in civil law, LL. B. (Dean’s Honour list) from the University of Montréal in 2015 and a bachelor’s degree in management, specializing in professional accounting, from HEC Montréal in 2013 (Honour roll).
